Telekom Slovenije introduces 5G network in 25% of the country – Racunalo.comJuly 26, 2020
Telekom Slovenije has started the introduction of the first commercial 5G network in that country, and for that it will use the existing base stations within the frequency spectrum of 2600MHz (which is currently in use for 4G).
Slovenski Telekom announced that the 5G network will initially cover slightly less than 25 percent of Slovenian territory, and that the company’s plan is to “cover” more than 33 percent of the country by the end of the year.
Also, Slovenski Telekom explained this move by the fact that such an improved network (4G / 5G) will enable significantly faster data transfer than the one provided by the current LTE / 4G network. However, the full potential of the fifth generation wireless network will be available only when Telecom is approved to use the additional frequency spectrum.
So far, Telekom Slovenije has upgraded the existing 150 base stations, which roughly cover about a quarter of the country’s territory. As we have stated, with this way of upgrading, the company expects that the coverage will exceed 33 percent by the end of this year.
