Production of the new Toyota Yaris has started in FranceJuly 13, 2020
Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF) has launched production of the new generation Toyota Yaris at its production facility in Valenciennes, northern France.
The fourth generation of Toyota’s best-selling model in Europe is the first compact car built on the GA-B platform of Toyota’s New Global Architecture (TNGA), which forms the basis for improved dynamics, performance, handling and safety, as well as attractive looks.
TMMF became the fourth factory in Europe to introduce TNGA platform production, after Toyota Motor Manufacturing Turkey (Toyota C-HR and Corolla Sedan), Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK (Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports) and Toyota Motor Russia (Camry and RAV4). Toyota’s localization strategy also includes the production of main vehicle assemblies: the new Yaris is equipped with the latest generation 1.5-liter TNGA engine, which is also produced in Europe – at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Poland.
An additional investment of 300 million euros, which is half of the initial investment of TMMF, enabled the production of vehicles that use the TNGA platform.
Production in accordance with measures against COVID-19
After five weeks of controlled cessation of production in accordance with isolation measures due to COVID-19 in France, TMMF resumed production on 22 April. Initial production volumes were kept at significantly lower levels compared to normal business, in order to take care of the most important aspect – maintaining safety and health of employees and other participants in the production and distribution chain, full compliance with new protocols and procedures for maintaining hygiene and social distance.
